FAQ

  • What's the ideal age for braces and other orthodontic treatments?

There is no ideal age for orthodontic treatment. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age.

Ideally, an orthodontist should examine a child's teeth and jaw by age 7. Most patients don't need orthodontic treatment that young, but some may benefit from early intervention.

  • How long do I have to wear braces?

Some treatments last only a few months and others last for several years. It depends on your individual case and the problem your treatment is correcting.

  • How often will I have to visit the orthodontist during treatment?

Typically you'll visit your orthodontist every 6 to 10 weeks. Your orthodontist will monitor your progress, make changes as needed, and check the health of your teeth and gums.

  • What if I don't want traditional braces. What are my options?

Treatment options include tooth-colored braces, lingual braces or braces that sit behind the teeth, or clear aligner trays. Additionally, today's metal braces are smaller, flatter, sleeker, and much more comfortable than in the past. Your orthodontist will recommend the treatment that's best for you.
