Orthodontists are experts in their field who completed additional specialized training after dental school in order to enter the field of orthodontics. They receive certification through the American Board of Orthodontics, the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association. To receive certification, orthodontists must complete a written test, a clinical exam and renew their credentials every 10 years.
